Social Events
Call it networking, call it relaxing – but the opportunities to mix and mingle are a big part of any conference. We do our best to provide a good variety of activities, so please plan to join us. Watch this page for breaking news on social activities.
All delegates and their guests are welcome!
NOTE: For guests not staying at the Lodge, all meal tickets, including those for the closing dinner, can be purchased at the JPL Concierge Desk.

8:00 p.m.-8:45 p.m. First Timers’ Get Together
Get ready to kick off your first Alberta Library Conference! This is the place to meet other first-timers! Whether you’re a trustee or library staff member, make sure to attend this reception in your honour.
Join us for an opportunity to meet some friendly faces. You’ll learn how to make the most of your conference and maybe win some terrific door prizes. A representative from JPL will give a brief history of the lodge and you will also be introduced to the presidents of ALTA and LAA. Get your conference off to a smooth start by registering for this popular event.
9:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. Opening Reception
We are very thankful to the University of Alberta Libraries as they are generously sponsoring our Opening Reception in the Great Hall once again this year. The adjoining Exhibit Hall will be open from 6:30 p.m., so do a tour through the displays before joining us for refreshments and socializing.

9:15 p.m. Film Night: ALC Gets Animated!
Get Animated! is the NFB’s animation celebration, bringing you some of Canada’s finest (and funniest!) animated films: from boldly experimental to flat-out funny, there’s something for everyone. Two films have even been nominated for an Oscar this year! See the Prairies from the crowded back seat of a car, enter the miraculous world of the spirits and be dazzled by a celebration of music and colour.

6:00 p.m. Closing Dinner and Social: “A Tip of the Hat to the Calgary Public Library”
Join us as ALC honours the 100th Anniversary of the Calgary Public Library. This is the perfect opportunity to flash your fascinator, trot out your top hat, or break out the bowler – dress it up or keep it casual, just wear your favourite topper to help us celebrate!
If you don’t have your ticket yet, they will be available during the Conference from the concierge, and are available right up until dinner time. “Extras” are also sometimes available – check at the Registration Desk periodically on Saturday. A few more notes: tables are first-come, first-served (no reserved tables), but look for the New Friends table if you’re not with a group. Wine is available to order from the wait staff at the banquet, or to purchase at the bar in the dining room, but is not included in your meal ticket.
“Cap” your Conference with an evening of fine food, fellowship and the chance to one of fabulous door prizes – including a gift certificate from the Jasper Park Lodge.
8:00 p.m. Author Talk: Marina Endicott
8:00 p.m. Wine Tasting
Richard Harvey from Metrovino in Calgary will have some playful vintages to tempt your palate! The Wine Tasting is sold out.
9:00 p.m. Dance!
Don’t be shy about attending the dance: you don’t need a partner and you don’t even need to dance. Just plan to have some fun socializing and sharing with all the great people in our Alberta library community.

Saturday, April 28
Keep your eyes peeled for the QR codes, hidden throughout the Jasper Park Lodge. (Hint: The first one will be at the Registration Desk. See how easy this is?) Scan each one with your smartphone, answer the not-so-skill-testing question, and fill out your entry to win a Kobo eReader!
Look for the entry form in the daily ALC Info-to-Go, and drop it in the contest box at the Registration Desk by 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 28th. The winner will be announced at Saturday night’s banquet. Good luck, and happy hunting!
