The ALC Advantage
In Alberta, we are incredibly lucky to have access to some of the most beautiful landscapes and facilities in the world. The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge (JPL) has been the ‘home’ of the Alberta Library Conference (ALC) for more than 40 years.
ALC provides a unique experience from other conferences, explaining why more than 800 attendees each year choose to attend. The ‘retreat’ aspect of ALC is intentional as it engages everyone who attends. Attendees eat together, socialize together, and learn together over the 3 days. Conferences held ‘locally’ result in broad dispersal of attendees between and after sessions, as people choose to go home to eat, socialize and sleep. The setting at ALC provides an opportunity to build relationships and connections that would not be possible at other venues
ALC provides many opportunities for networking. Take the time to meet someone new, whether it is during meals, coffee breaks, or during one of the many evening networking events. Keep an eye out for tables in the dining room specially identified to "meet new friends". At ALC, you get a chance to interact with everyone from CEOS to board members to politicians to students. ALC is an exciting opportunity to meet potential employers/employees and make connections at a range of different libraries throughout the province. Learn what other libraries are doing and consider how your library might make use of these new ideas.
ALC offers two keynote speakers, over 50 sessions, a large trade show, author talks, and a variety of social events.
Registration fees – one of the advantages of our longstanding relationship with JPL is that they provide meeting space for free which allows us to keep registration costs low. When you compare the registration costs to other major library conferences, you can see the savings realized by holding the conference at JPL.
Register early – early bird registrants save $45 to $245 over late or on-site registration! Registration opens in January.
Accommodation – Accommodation at JPL includes three buffet meals daily with a variety of selections for all tastes, and those who can’t find something to meet their dietary needs on the buffet can ask JPL staff, who will happily accommodate their needs. Parking is free and Internet access is complimentary with a Fairmont President’s Club membership (also free).
While it is great to stay at the conference hotel, we have arranged special pricing at four hotels in the townsite. See the accommodation page for more details.
